Time and Attendance Systems are a must have for companies using zero hours contracts
Time and attendance system that can accurately determine the number of hours worked are vital for companies employing people on zero hours contracts. However, although the number of workers on a zero-hours contract has recently hit a record high of 910,000, a slowdown in last six months seems to suggest that firms might be starting to slowly move away from ZHCs.
Analysis by the Resolution Foundation has found that the number of people on a ZHC grew by more than 100,000 between the last three months of 2015 and the last three months of 2016 – an increase of 13 per cent.
However, it also revealed that the growth of zero-hours contract slowed markedly in the second half of 2016 – rising by just 7,000, or 0.8 per cent. This is well down on the 7.7 per cent growth recorded during the second half of 2015 and slightly slower than employment growth across the economy during that period.
The analysis shows that approaching half (46 per cent) of the net increase in ZHCs in the last year has been among workers aged 55-64. This suggests that, although companies might be slowly moving away from zero hours contracts, for some older workers, ZHCs may offer a flexible transition from full-time work to retirement, allowing them to top up their income
