Plans to build a new train station in Cambridge are recommended for approval

Ambitious plans to build a new railway station in Cambridge have been recommended for approval by officers at Cambridge City Council, a news report in the local business media can reveal.

As part of this initiative, Network Rail is seeking permission to build a 4,850 sq ft station at Chesterton Sidings, close to Cambridge Business Park, which incorporates passenger waiting facilities, toilets, a staffed ticket office, retail space and rail staff accommodation.

The Cambridge North station will house two mainline platforms of up to 254m in length, with the provision for an extension to 270m, alongside a bay platform, a pedestrian cycle bridge linking the station building and platforms over the main line.

Rail users will have the benefit of a 450-space car park and a 1,000-cycle park, with new pedestrian and cycle links to surrounding areas.
