Over 100 council workers go on strike
Members of staff working for the South Ayrshire Council’s Property & Maintenance department have decided to go on strike following a long-standing dispute that’s been escalating since back in August 2013.
The workers (over 100) are members of construction union UCATT and Unite and their dispute concerns the conduct of the council’s Property Maintenance Manager. The ballots for industrial action which saw a turnout of over 70 for both unions were conducted after the council’s internal grievance procedure was exhausted.
An investigation containing almost 1,000 pages resulted in the grievance being upheld in part and recommended that the manager attend a management course and be monitored for a three-month period.
A subsequent appeal was rejected by a panel of elected members.
Absenteeism can be monitored and acted upon at the workplace thanks to the WinTA.NET software from Time and Attendance UK. The useful online self service module allows employees or contractors to view or change their personal information via an Internet Browser.
Access to the self-service module is username and password protected. After a successful login, staff can view their absence calendar and make holiday requests. They can then add or amend any of their clockings, to be authorised subsequently by a line manager, and annotate reasons why they were absent.
At Time and Attendance UK, we offer a complete smart card time and attendance system that includes European Working Time Directive checking and reporting, Access Control, Fire Roll Call, and also makes good use of mobile and wireless technology so that your time and attendance information can be accessed from anywhere.
