Manchester City FC set to add 10,000 new seats to Etihad Stadium
Manchester City FC plans to further extend the seating capacity of its Etihad Stadium and is now launching a public consultation into the project, aiming to actually submit a planning application by the end of 2013.
As a news report in the media reveals, the Club wants to extend the stadium’s capacity by an impressive 10,000 seats, and in order to do so, it would have to redevelop the South Stand behind one of the goals, extending out by a further 16 metres, and also possibly the opposing North Stand.
The project would be carried out in either two phases or see both ends extended simultaneously, depending on the actual results of the consultation.
If planning permission is granted, construction work would probably start next spring with a target of being ready for the 2015-16 season. About 110 match day jobs and 160 construction roles are expected to be created per extension.
Pete Bradshaw, head of infrastructure and corporate responsibility, said that: “We are looking at what we can physically do with the building and how we might think about the stadium’s future and what the opportunities and constraints are. We also need to know what the fans and the community want and how do we make sure we’re a positive player in the local neighbourhood. We’ve achieved 70 per cent local employment on our other projects to date and we’ve got to make sure these job opportunities stay within the local economy.”
