Lovell wins new development contract in Bristol

A major UK construction company has managed to scoop a new contract for building an £11m mixed tenure housing development at the former Brentry Hospital site in Bristol.

As part of this deal, construction experts Lovell will build 79 high-quality houses and apartments on the five-acre site on Brentry Lane with construction set to start in summer 2014, a news report in the local media can reveal.

Lovell will sell sixty-four of the new homes directly, while 15 homes will be for social rent and shared ownership through Knightstone Housing Association.

The scheme will create 38 two-, three- and four-bedroom new-build houses and 20 new-build apartments for open market sale. In addition, Lovell will create six apartments for sale by refurbishing Phoenix House, an existing building which formed part of the old hospital and dates from the late 19th / early 20th century.

The affordable homes for Knightstone will comprise six two-, three- and four- bedroom houses and six two-bedroom apartments for social rent and three two- and three-bedroom houses for shared ownership. The design of the new development has been inspired by the ‘garden village’ architecture characteristic of the Brentry area.
