The paper suggests that hurly rates for temporary staff and contract workers grew at their fastest pace since November 2007. However, the REC also found that there are fewer candidates coming into the recruitment pool as hiring agencies reported a fall in both permanent and temporary staff available for interviews.
Figures also revealed that demand for employees was considerably stronger in the private sector than the public sector during September. The fastest growth rate was in private sector temporary vacancies, while the slowest rise was in public sector short-term roles.
Kevin Green, REC chief executive, said: “Once again more people have secured permanent and temporary jobs via recruiters than in the previous month, a sign of the continued strength of the UK’s labour market.
“Hourly pay for people on temporary contracts has risen at the fastest pace for nearly seven years, which shows that employers are bringing in temps and contractors with the skills they need quickly and are willing to pay to do so.
