£30m funding agreed for Community Facilities In Northstowe

Gallagher Estates, the promoters of the first 1,500 homes at the planned new town of Northstowe, set to be created to the north-west of Cambridge, have agreed to a £30m investment plan with the local councils for developing community facilities, a news report in the local media has revealed.

The legal agreement includes £10m for a new primary school, £8m contribution toward a new secondary school and also close to £6m toward transport, including new cycle routes, footpaths and a contribution for the Cambridgeshire Guided Busway which is already in place.

Additional funding of £1.5m will be provided for a community centre, while £1.5m will go towards sports pitches, £1.1m to a sports pavilion. Over £1m will be set aside for drainage, which will include improvements for nearby Longstanton, while over £500,000 will be put forward for parks and open spaces.

As soon as planning permission has been granted, a series of detailed planning applications will follow, which will include the design and appearance of homes. All of these will be consulted on with residents.

The initial development of new homes will also include a local centre with shops and employment opportunities as well as a household recycling centre.
