200 new houses set to be built in Manchester

Following a successful bid for a share of a £56m funding pot for the North West area, Manchester City Council plans to develop 200 new houses across the city, to meed the increasing demand for housing space.

As a news report in the local media informs us, the Manchester City Council worked in partnership with housing providers to identify sites across the area suitable for housing development. As a part of this scheme, 143 affordable rent properties and 38 shared-ownership properties are set to be built across the city.

City council deputy leader Cllr Jim Battle said: “These developments represent the beginning of our Residential Growth Strategy – a prospectus of home building in the city in the next 15 years – that will look to deliver up to 5,000 homes in the next three years to keep up with demand as the city’s population continues to grow.

“Our partnerships with housing providers in Manchester will be invaluable in the future, allowing us to support home building across the city and ensure the types of homes that are needed are being built in the areas that need them, creating sustainable and attractive neighbourhoods of choice.”
