Time and attendance and workforce management systems to streamline the aftermath of living wage
Implementing solid time and attendance and workforce management systems will become a very important over the next couple of years since close to a million retail jobs could be slashed as the high street adapts to changing shopping habits and makes adjustments to the introduction of the living wage.
A new report compiled by the British Retail Consortium (BRC) has warned that government policies including the new national living wage, the apprenticeship levy and rising business rates will add as much as £14bn to retailers’ bills over the next four years.
As a direct result, as many as 900,000 jobs could be lost by 2025 as a result of retailers trying to meet these costs.
Further pressure will be added by ongoing changes in shopping habits and the advent of online shopping, which are already driving larger retailers and supermarkets to staff cuts and workforce optimization.
