Up to 800 temporary jobs to be created by Peterborough retail centre

A Peterborough retail centre is set to create 800 new temporary jobs in the run up to Christmas, a recent news report in the local media has been able to reveal.

Retailers at Peterborough’s Queensgate shopping centre have gone on quite an impressive recruitment drive in preparation for the forthcoming shopping seasion.

More than 90 of the positions are set to be offered by fashion retailer Next while John Lewis, BHS and Marks and Spencer will collectively take on about 100 staff. Other retailers hiring temporary staff include Boots, Argos, HMV, River Island, Pandora, Game, Card Factory, Lush, Primark, Topman, Topshop, Fat Face, Superdry, Jack & Jones and Carluccio’s.

John Holdich, leader of Peterborough City Council, added: “It’s great to learn that Queensgate retailers are looking to recruit this number of temporary seasonal positions.

“These roles will be ideal for a number of people, not least the large of number of students who live in Peterborough, or those returning to the city from elsewhere.

“Other businesses, including Royal Mail and Amazon, have also announced they are recruiting for seasonal roles in Peterborough and this is very encouraging for those looking for work over the festive weeks.”
