Supermarket giant to cut 1,360 management jobs
One of the UK’s largest supermarkets has revealed plans to significantly cut its workforce across its chain of stores in a bid to make the whole business more cost-effective and in-tune with the increased level of demand in online shopping.
ASDA has announced that its restructure plans will affect all of its 578 stores, with up to 1,360 workers in danger of being made redundant in the next few weeks.
However, it’s not all bad news since, as part of the restructure, Asda will also create 5,670 new jobs. Most of these new positions will be low-paid roles, though, aimed at increasing presence on shop floors and in areas such as click and collect.
Last year, the supermarket pledged to spend £1bn over the next five years to cutting prices, and launched massive price reductions across its products, to tackle the rise of discounters Aldi and Lidl.
Every company, regardless of its size and scope, that undergoes such massive changes in its organizational structure should first and foremost implement a very solid and reliable workforce management system, capable of coping with the challenges of adding and removing so many employees from the firm’s ranks.
