Building work starts on 40 energy efficient houses in Cumbria

Building work on a development featuring 40 new energy-efficient houses has started in Grange over Sands, in Cumbria, at a former swimming pool site, a news report in the local business media has recently revealed.

According to the developers, the future homes for rent will obtain a level three in the Code for Sustainable Homes based on the building fabrics alone. Traditional building materials for the homes will be low or zero carbon materials such as natural slate, stone elevations and a timber frame.

Furthermore, the houses will be highly insulated and fitted with solar photovoltaic tiles to generate electricity for tenants. The tiles are being used as opposed to solar panels because the scheme is in a conservation area. Other energy-efficient features include A-rated low NOx gas boilers and energy display devices.
