Allowances for sick leave can be customised for staff members
Workers on sick leave can carry forward their holiday, the Court of Appeal has ruled. It also adjudged that an individual does not need to make a specific request for this to happen. It means employees on long-term sickness absence are entitled to automatically carry forward annual leave into the next holiday year. The Court rejected an employer’s argument that a staff member will lose statutory holiday entitlement if they have not requested to take annual leave or carry it over.
