A leading nurse has expressed reservations about proposed changes to shift patterns. Lindsay Meeks, from the Royal College of Nursing, said that because of issues like patient safety she had “concerns” about Royal Berkshire Hospital’s discussions around adopting 12-hour shifts. She commented: “Royal Berkshire Hospital is merely talking to their staff at this moment in time.” She added: “We certainly are concerned about 12-hour shifts, because eight-hour shifts are considered to be the optimum lengths.”
